I’ve run small businesses for almost a decade, after twenty years as a magazine editor.
I still love and produce writing in print. To a journalist though, digital media feels like being given wings. Content-driven e-commerce has striking similarities with the glossy magazine trade.
I’ve worked as editor at large of The Face, fashion director of FHM plus senior editor of Arena Homme+ and Arena. I’ve won a bunch of awards for writing about men’s stuff like this and this. I started out editing 90s style magazine Sleaze Nation, recently profiled in Resident Advisor.
My last editing gig was on Fighter’s Only in Newcastle Upon Tyne, where I launched Train while moonlighting as dating columnist of Marie Claire. Its readers weren’t allowed to know I was in the north-east editing a cage fighting magazine. In retrospect, they may’ve liked it.
More recently I helped out Nativ magazine in Ibiza and boutique-published a martial arts title alongside my Battles of London project.
Working for myself has been a magnificent learning experience. Currently I’m studying psychology, psychedelic therapy in fact, which you can read about on my platform New Psychonaut. I live in Shoreditch, London.
